How to Manage your Overall Health

Managing your overall health and wellness can be an overwhelming task, but with the help of a fitness tracker, it can become much easier to achieve your goals. For the past two years, I have been using a fitness tracker to not only better understand my heart rate and improve my sleep, but to also monitor my overall performance and track my progress towards becoming a healthier version of myself.

What I found most intriguing about using a fitness tracker is the valuable information it provides regarding how different behaviours impact my recovery. For example, I was able to increase my nightly sleep from five hours to six hours, which has greatly supported my overall recovery process. While it has been challenging to improve my sleep habits, the fitness tracker has given me the necessary information and tools to make it possible.

Through an increase in cardiovascular activity, I was able to reduce my resting heart rate from 55-60 bpm to 48-53 bpm. Interestingly, it was not only playing football that made the most impact, but rather incorporating brisk walking into my routine.

One of the most surprising revelations was the effect of alcohol on my heart rate and recovery. Upon consuming alcohol, my resting heart rate increased by a significant 50-75 bpm, while my heart rate variability dropped to a fifth of its optimal level. This knowledge has encouraged me to greatly reduce my alcohol intake.

There are countless variables to track and monitor with a fitness tracker, including calories, steps, and daily strain, among others. Ultimately, a fitness tracker has given me the tools and motivation needed to make positive changes in my life and achieve my health goals.
